Unlocking a User

How to Unlock a User

Summary: This video explains how site administrators can quickly unlock users who have been temporarily locked out after multiple failed login attempts. This feature helps reduce user downtime and improves access management efficiency.

Key Features:

Lockout Trigger: Users are locked out after five failed login attempts, receiving an error message and locked out for 10 minutes.

Password Reset Option: Users can still request a password reset during the lockout but must wait for the lockout period to expire or be manually unlocked.

Administrator Notifications: Site admins receive an email alert when a user is locked out, including the user’s details.

Manual Unlocking by Admin: Admins can bypass the 10-minute wait by unlocking the user directly through the user management section.

How to Unlock a User: Log into the site as an administrator.

Navigate to the Users section and select Add and Manage Users.

Find the locked-out user and click the edit (pencil) icon next to their name.

Scroll to the bottom and click the Unlock Account option (this option only appears for locked-out users).

The user will now be able to log in immediately.

Benefits:

Faster User Access Recovery: Avoid unnecessary wait times for locked-out users.

Improved User Support: Quickly respond to lockouts with manual overrides.

Clear Lockout Identification: Admins know who is locked out thanks to email alerts and UI indicators.

Secure Control: Lockout and unlock controls help balance security with user convenience.
